Casablanca's story stretches back over a thousand years when it was but a small Berber fishing village known as "Anfa." The Phoenicians and Romans traded here, appreciating its strategic location.

In the 15th century, Portuguese explorers arrived, renaming the town "Casa Branca" for its white buildings. However, in 1755, a devastating earthquake reduced it to ruins.

In the 18th century, the Moroccan sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Abdallah took notice of the town's potential and ordered its reconstruction. He renamed it "Dar el Baida," or "White House," a name later anglicized to "Casablanca."

It wasn't until the 20th century that Casablanca experienced a renaissance under French colonial rule. The French transformed it into a modern metropolis, complete with Art Deco architecture and boulevards reminiscent of Paris.

Casablanca played a pivotal role in World War II, as it served as a vital Allied outpost. The city's name became legendary through the film "Casablanca," though it was mostly filmed in Hollywood.

With Morocco's independence in 1956, Casablanca continued to grow, becoming the country's economic and business hub. Today, it stands as a bustling cosmopolitan city, a blend of modernity and tradition.
